Accelerating Our Impact – Inaugural ALLG Clinical Trial Fellow Announced

ALLG welcomed the announcement of the inaugural ALLG HSANZ Clinical Trials Fellow at the recent Blood Conference Gala Dinner in Brisbane.

The ALLG Fellowship program provides outstanding early-career researchers a pathway to a career in clinical trial research. Fellows receive funding to undertake a 12-month research project, aligned to the ALLG’s Scientific Research Strategy and blood cancer clinical trial portfolio.

This exciting program is designed to support the next generation of blood cancer researchers and clinical triallists, and to drive better treatments for patients with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood cancers.

ALLG Scientific Advisory Chair, Professor Judith Trotman, said, “The ALLG Fellowship provides opportunities for our junior clinical trial researchers to build experience for a successful career in blood cancer research.”

“Investing in our early career researchers is vital to ALLG as we pursue the most clinically important research to meet the needs of our blood cancer patients and community we serve.”

Introducing our 2025 ALLG Clinical Trials Fellow

ALLG is delighted to introduce Dr Arina Martynchyk as our inaugural ALLG HSANZ Clinical Trials Fellow for 2025.

Dr Martynchyk is a Research Fellow at Austin Health Haematology and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute in Melbourne, Victoria. Dr Martynchyk’s ALLG Fellowship research project is titled “Hearing patient voices in blood cancer research: Patient Reported Outcome use, implementation and reporting in trials conducted by ALLG.”

This project will involve research to define the optimal patient-reported outcomes measures to embed as best practice in ALLG clinical trial development pathways, aiming to accelerate understanding of the best quality of life tools in the context of novel blood cancer treatments like immunotherapies and CAR-T therapy.

Dr Martynchyk will work with her co-supervisors and ALLG Members Associate Professor Eliza Hawkes, Chief Clinical Research Officer at ONJCRI, and Dr Nicole Wong-Doo, Director Clinical Research Unit at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, on this exciting blood cancer research project for ALLG.

Dr Martynchyk said, “I’m excited to be the inaugural ALLG Clinical Trials Fellow. Through researching the best quality of life tools and timepoints for novel blood cancer treatments, we can better understand the patient experience and incorporate this into treatments and care.”

A/Prof Eliza Hawkes said, “We are looking forward to mentoring Arina as Dr Arina Martynchyk embarks as the inaugural ALLG Clinical Trials Fellow and helps us explore the ALLG’s excellent track record of patient-oriented research within the trials program.”

“Providing the next generation of researchers with the key skills and knowledge to conduct clinical trials is an honour and privilege for us but also crucial to building capacity to improve blood cancer patient outcomes.”
