ALLG Consumer Representative awarded AM for service to people with cancer

 In News

Congratulations to all recipients of this year’s Australia Day honour awards. We’re delighted that ALLG Consumer Representative, Mr John Stubbs AM has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for ‘significant service to community health, particularly to people with cancer’.

John became a health advocate after he went into remission for Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia 22 years ago and dedicated his life to “ensuring patients are at the centre of the health system”.

I started doing work with volunteer organisations, with the idea of giving something back, and giving a voice to people.”

You can read John’s ‘survivor’ story here and learn more about his award and health advocacy work here.

What is a consumer representative?
A consumer representative is a committee member who voices the consumer perspective (someone whose life has been affected by cancer) and takes part in the decision making process on behalf of consumers.

Our current committee of four representatives are all survivors of blood cancer and provide feedback on a wide variety of issues, such as clinical trials, ALLG website consumer information and research priorities.
