We are all extremely saddened to announce that our respected colleague and friend Doctor Kenneth (Ken) Romeril MNZM, MB ChB, FRACP, FRCPA (Haematology), passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones, on 8 February 2024.

Ken Romeril was a long-time member of the ALLG and a highly respected haematologist. He joined the ALLG in 2001 and was an active member in the Myeloma Disease Group Committee, leading seven ALLG trials locally at Wellington Hospital. In 2010, Ken took up the position as co-opted New Zealand representative of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and in 2011 was appointed to the SAC. Ken served on the ALLG Scientific Advisory Committee from August 2011 to November 2013.

Throughout his career, Ken was a tireless advocate for his patients and colleagues, and remained an active member of the ALLG supporting the organisation in its advocacy for clinical trials in NZ. Ken was proud to see the ALLG establish its first Medicines Access Committee for NZ in 2020 and offered his support to advocate.

In the New Year Honours of 2022, Ken received a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to haematology.

Everyone at the ALLG recognises the significant contributions he made during his career and his personal friendship to his colleagues across the Australian and New Zealand haematology community. Our thoughts are with his family and all of our colleagues at Wellington Hospital.
