Professor Mark Hertzberg

Mark Hertzberg has been an active member of the ALLG for 27 years, previously serving as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee and High Grade Lymphoma Group at the ALLG from 2010 to 2017.
Professor Mark Hertzberg is Professor of Haematology at Prince of Wales Hospital and University of NSW (UNSW). He completed a PhD in Polynesian population genetics and was the first to confirm their strong genetic affinities with Asian populations. This was followed by an NHMRC CJ Martin post-doctoral fellowship at Tufts University in Boston USA.
Subsequently, as Staff Specialist at Westmead Hospital, he led the Haematology Clinical Trials Unit, the Lymphoma service, and later the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. For 15 years, he was pathologist-in-charge of the Westmead Haematology Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, and this led to his convening and chairing the RCPA Haematology Molecular Quality Assurance Program.
Over a period of more than 30 years he has made a sustained and high-level contribution to teaching hospitals, two major University medical schools, and the Haematology profession in Australia as a busy clinical and laboratory haematologist, clinician-scientist, and teacher.
In 2022 he received the Member of the Order of Australia (AM).
